In Our Own Words
The NFL
Football is big business. And one more example is the new TV deal that the NFL struck with FOX, CBS and NBC. Worth $27.9 billion from 2014-2022 to the NFL. Not bad if you happen to own an NFL franchise. Fairly clear that the networks now what their viewers want to see. Or at least they better have a clear understanding if they are shelling out $27.9b. But don’t worry about the networks – they’ll make their money back and break even, at worst case. The average ad spot cost was up last year by 27%. And total spending on football advertising is up 20%. It might be break even but the networks know they need that programming to keep their viewers.
